After successful exhibitions in both Toronto, and London UK, the UNFPA commissioned Somewherelse to create an experiential exhibit for A Piece Of Me at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

Somewherelse partnered with Sara Elgamal for the launch of her UNFPA/UN supported campaign, “A Piece of Me’. We (Somewherelse) hosted a site specific viewing experience and immersive exhibit, which brought the project to life in an educational and immersive way. This showcase took place on February 6th, which is the international day of zero tolerance for FGM. The UN hosted a powerful panel discussion which brought UN employees from various departments, along with diplomats and media personnel to experience the film, and learn more about Sarah and the entire A Piece Of Me Campaign.

“A Piece of Me” is a UNFPA campaign, celebrating three Survivors of FGM (female Genital Mutilation) with the aim to spread awareness in an effort to end FGM worldwide. It was shot like a fashion film in the desert of the Afar region of Ethiopia with visually gripping and captivating images and colours, featuring Zahra, Abata, and Khadija. Sara Elgamal celebrates the strength and beauty of these women who refuse to be defined solely as victims of FGM but instead re-define their own version of passion.
